BOSTON — A top environmental advocacy group is heading to court to ask a judge to order Massachusetts to move forward with a key provision of a landmark global warming law.
The Conservation Law Foundation said it will present oral arguments in Suffolk County Superior Court on Monday afternoon, arguing that the state has failed to live up to the 2008 Global Warming Solutions Act.
The group said the law requires the state Department of Environmental Protection to adopt regulations setting declining emissions goals for greenhouse gasses.
The group said the regulations, which have yet to be adopted, were supposed to have taken effect by January 2013.
In the lawsuit the group asks the court to order state environmental officials to establish the regulations with an effective date of Jan. 1, 2015.
