PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — The latest statistics show the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard contributed more than $400 million in civilian payroll during 2013.
The Portsmouth Herald (http://bit.ly/1fTHI7E ) reports the shipyard hired 161 new workers during the year and has done more than $250 million in construction projects over the past two years.
The information was released Friday as part of the Seacoast Shipyard Association's annual economic impact report.
The payroll of $414 million was a decrease of about $7 million from 2012, a drop that was blamed on across-the-board federal spending cuts.
Military members working at the shipyard in 2013, mostly crew members of submarines at the yard for overhaul, were paid $41 million.
